Catechists gather for a day of formation and fellowship
Over 230 catechists take part in the Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis Day for Catechists

Over 230 dedicated catechists from across the Archdiocese came together for a fully booked day of prayer and learning focused on the Creed. The event offered a powerful blend of spiritual reflection, practical workshops, and a commissioning Mass.
The day began with a keynote speech from Martin Kochanski, the creator of Universalis, who guided attendees through the Nicene Creed, exploring its profound meaning for us today and its central role in catechesis. His talk was engaging and often entertaining, preparing catechists as they sought to deepen their understanding of the faith they share with others.
Archbishop John Wilson led a thought-provoking workshop, alongside members of the AEC team, on what it means to live the Creed within the Archdiocese. Archbishop John challenged catechists to consider how this lived faith strengthens their missionary work. The day's workshops covered a wide range of topics, from enriching catechesis with the liturgical tradition, to spiritual catechesis; from the jubilee and to engaging young people through youth ministry. Presenters included seasoned catechists, members of the Agency and clergy from across the diocese.
The diversity of the catechists was a testament to the community's shared commitment to leading people to Christ, with ages ranging from the youngest catechist at just 14 to the most seasoned, at over 90.
Two highlights, reflected in the feedback, were a rich period of adoration with the sacrament of penance and the concluding Commissioning Mass celebrated by Archbishop John at St George’s Cathedral. The later was a special moment of prayer and unity, where catechists were blessed and sent forth to continue their vital ministry. The Mass was followed by a graduation ceremony for students who completed their CCRS and Archbishop’s Certificate studies.
With the Day for Catechists always filling up quickly, the event was fully booked weeks in advance. To make sure you don't miss out on future events, sign up for the Agency of Evangelisation and Catechesis mailing list and book early; the next archdiocesan Day for Catechists is on Saturday 3 October 2026.
Congratulations to the AEC for all their hard work putting together such a powerful and informative day.
Please join us in praying for all catechists in our Archdiocese, that they may continue to share the love of the Lord Jesus Christ with hearts full of faith and devotion.
