The rosary is a beautiful way to celebrate the mystery of the Word made flesh
Father Damian Ilodigwe's reflection for Advent on the rosary
In a video reflection on Advent and the rosary, Father Damian said the rosary is “wholly Christocentric”, which is why it “cannot be separated from the mystery of Christ from which it derives its raison d'etre”.
This makes the rosary, he said,
“a beautiful way to celebrate the mystery of the Word made flesh. In praying the rosary, we, contemplate the mysteries of Christ and, praying the rosary helps us to fix our gaze on Christ”.
That is why, Fr Damian said,
"the Rosary is so helpful to us to pray during Advent, because it cannot be separated from Christ. Just like Christ cannot be separated from Christmas”.
Father Damian – the parish priest at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Goudhurst – has contributed to a new booklet, the rosary for evangelisation, which helps you to pray with Our Lady for evangelisation.
The booklet has been created by the Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis and you can order a copy via their website. Father Damian has also written several books, including the Discipleship and Integrity, and Faith in Action.
This Advent, we have been called to reflect on the meaning of Emmanuel: God with us, by Archbishop John Wilson.
In a separate reflection, Archbishop John said the joy of Emmanuel is “that God in Christ dwells among us and remains with us always. He knows you and he loves you. He calls you by name and invites you to walk in his light”.
The Archbishop added that this Advent, we should
“rejoice that Jesus is Emmanuel: God with us, God beside us, God within us”.
Throughout Advent, the Archdiocese will be sharing prayers, reflections, hymns and antiphons to help us rejoice in the beautiful truth that Jesus is Emmanuel: God with us.
