Pope Benedict's second encyclical 'Spe Salvi' was published on Friday, 30th November, 2007. It is the Holy Father's personal reflection on Christian Hope. The full text is now available:

Archbishop Kevin blessed the new offices of Aid to the Church in Need on Thursday, 29th November 2007. Almost a hundred friends of the charity were present. The day coincided with the charity's 60th anniversary.
Father Hyacinth Egbebo, the Superior General of the Missionary Society of St Paul, was in the parish of The Assumption, Deptford with members of his order on Friday, 23rd November 2007, the day the Vatican announced that he had been appointed auxiliary bishop by the Holy Father.
Bishop-elect Egbebo is to be auxiliary of the apostolic vicariate of Bomadi in Nigeria. The vicariate covers about 7,000 square miles and has a population of 2.7 million. Its 21,000 Catholics are served by 17 priests and 6 religious.
The Missionaries of St Paul are in four parishes in the diocese of Southwark:
the Cathedral, St Gertrude's, South Bermondsey,
SS Philip and James, Herne Hill and The Assumption, Deptford.
Cardinal Cláudio Hummes, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, (which is also entrusted with catechesis) has written to the world's catechists, paying tribute to their vocation and encouraging them in the work they undertake for the benefit of the Church.
|Archbishop Kevin, as Chairman of the Committee for Other Faiths of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, has forwarded to the Hindu community a letter from Cardinal Tauran greeting them on their feast of Diwali.|

Bishop Patrick Lynch and Canon James Cronin are on a ten day visit to Ghana as guests of Cardinal Turkson. They will address the Bishops’ Conference of Ghana assembled in Kumasi.

Archbishop Kevin offered Mass for Health and Social Care Workers in St George's Cathedral on Saturday, 3rd November. During the Mass those present made an Act of Commitment to persevere in their vocation to care for the sick and serve those in need.
He started his priestly life in the Diocese of Southwark and his first appointment was as curate at St Anselm's, Dartford.
He was appointed Archbishop of Birmingham in 1982 and resigned
on grounds of ill-health in 1999.

St Chad's Cathedral on Wednesday, 21st November 2007, at 11:30 am.
