The Knights of St Columba in collaboration with the Catholic Truth Society have worked for two years to produce a prayer book for Catholics serving in the armed forces. The KSC has borne the entire cost of the print run of 30,000 copies.
It is based on the CTS Simple Prayer Book and has a weatherproof cover.
Bishop Richard Moth, Bishop of the Forces, said: 'The Catholic community within the Armed Forces owes a great debt of gratitude to the Knights of St. Columba for their work. This new prayer book is a wonderful resource and will be a source of strength, comfort and hope in prayer for so many as they go about their duties across the world.'
Ron Lynch, Supreme Knight, will formally present the new Prayer book to Bishop Richard at the 11:00 am Mass at the Cathedral of St Michael and St George, Aldershot. on Sunday, 15th September 2013, and, at the end of Mass, they will be presented to members of the Armed Forces.

As our diocesan pilgrims return from Lourdes today, we thank them for their prayers on behalf of the diocese.
From Friday, 23rd, until Friday 30th August 2013, Bishop John will be leading the Southwark diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Bishop John, Father Edward Perera, our diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage Director, and the Southwark pilgrims invite you to join them in spirit and even make a 'virtual' pilgrimage of prayer with them.
There are a few prayer resources in our Lourdes 2013 section:
- as we continue to celebrate the Year of Faith, this year's Lourdes theme is
'Lourdes - a door of faith' - a meditation on this theme is available;
- we have included four pages with largely scriptural meditations for each mystery of the Rosary;
- and photos of 'The Way of the Cross' both on Calvary and on the Prairie are available again this year.
Our pilgrims will pray daily for for a particular diocesan intention and a list of these intentions can be viewed by clicking on the link in our Lourdes 2013 section menu. You are invited to join your prayers with theirs. The intention for the day will also be published at the top of this homepage.
The pilgrimage programme is available: Mass at the Grotto will be celebrated on Monday, 26th, at 8:45 am (BST) - France is an hour ahead of us - and you can join our pilgrims for this Mass on the TVLive web site. This camera is trained on the Grotto 24/7 so it is possible to tune in any time of day or night.
Photos will be uploaded to our Lourdes Diary as we receive them.
We wish all our pilgrims a blessed and happy pilgrimage.
On Saturday, 17th August 2013, Bishop Patrick presided at a Mass of Thanksgiving for the ministry of Deacon David Pease at St Patrick's Church, Plumstead.
Deacon Dave, as he is affectionately known in the parish, is retiring after 22 years diaconal ministry at St Patrick's, the parish he has lived in since his birth. He has been appreciated especially for his dedication to the sick and housebound, visiting over 25 people each week, the many Baptisms he celebrated and the comfort he has given to the bereaved when officiating at funerals - a man who is always quicker to listen than speak.
He has been greatly supported in his ministry by his wife, Margaret. Four generations of his family were present at the Mass.
Deacon Dave celebrates his 75th birthday today, 20th August. We wish him a great birthday and God's blessing throughout his retirement.

The Chapel at the Vocations Centre in Whitstable
The inscription in the apse of the chapel of the Vocations Centre in Whitsable reads 'Duc in altum et laxate retia vestra in capturam' - put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch (Luke 5:4).
This is the challenge of a new vocations initiative that Father Stephen Langridge, our diocesan Vocations Director, is offering eight prospective candidates for the priesthood.
They will form a Vocations Mission Team, committed to evangelization in schools, universities and parishes - and even on the streets. They will be resident at the Centre throughout the year and will receive formation in the faith, with a view to explaining it to others, in the spiritual life and in community living.
Their time at the Centre will offer them a substantial period for the discernment of their own vocations and has the aim, says Father Stephen, that 'evangelization becomes part of the DNA of our future priests'.
The project reflects well the words of Pope Francis at World
'It is not enough simply to open the door in welcome, but we must go out through that door to seek and meet the people!'
Father Stephen asks for prayers for the project and for sponsors to help fund it.
