On Tuesday, 26th November 2013, Pope Francis released the text of his first Apostolic Exhortation 'Evangelii Gaudium' - 'The Joy of the Gospel'.

Greenwich Deanery's Mass of Thanksgiving
for the Year of Faith

On Friday, 15th November 2013, at the Church of Our Lady of Grace, Charlton, Archbishop Peter presided at a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Year of Faith for the Greenwich Deanery. The Mass was concelebrated by the Dean, Father Richard Plunkett, and the deanery clergy.

In his homily Archbishop Peter told a full church: 'A living faith, at its heart, involves a personal relationship with the risen Christ in which we experience God's unconditional love for us.'

He ended by saying: 'Our faith is alive and well when we spend time with the risen Christ in prayer, asking him to open our ears that we may hear, to open our eyes that we may see, and to open our hearts that he may enkindle within us the fire of his love.'

After the Mass, the Archbishop greeted the congregation and a reception was held in the hall.

Saint George's Cathedral, designed by Augustus W.N. Pugin, was dedicated on 7th November 1894. The original Cathedral was destroyed by an incendiary bomb in 1941 and rebuilt in 1958. The day of its dedication is celebrated as a Feast each year throughout the diocese.

On Thursday, 7th November 2013, Canon Peter Stodart celebrated Mass in the Cathedral to mark the anniversary. He was joined by some of the Canons of the diocese.

On Friday, 1st November 2013, Relics of Saint Anthony of Padua, which have been on a pilgrimage tour of Ireland, Scotland and England, were received at Saint George's Cathedral at 5:00 pm

At 6:00 pm, Archbishop Peter presided at the Mass of the Solemnity of All Saints, after which veneration of the relics continued. It is estimated that 1,500 people came to venerate the relics.
