Archbishop Peter has written a Pastoral Letter to be read on the First Sunday of Advent 2016 - Sunday 27th November 2016.

..Advent is a fruitful time for us to examine the depth and strength of our faith in God and in his providence and to ask for God’s grace and help to remain faithful disciples.

We can’t hope to fulfil the challenge Christ puts before us every day unless we are firmly rooted in the spiritual life, in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Conclusion of the Jubilee of Mercy

On Sunday 20th November Pope Francis celebrated Mass on Sunday in St. Peter’s Square as part of the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, and began the liturgy by closing the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica.

In his homily, Pope Francis said, “Even if the Holy Door closes, the true door of mercy which is the heart of Christ always remains open wide for us.”

Following the conclusion of the Mass, the Holy Father signed the Apostolic Letter Misecordia et misera, addressed to the whole Church, as his concluding reflection on the Year of Mercy.

The previous Sunday, 13th November, the Door of Mercy at St George's Cathedral was closed for the last time, along with the other Doors of Mercy outside of Rome, in line with the instructions of the Holy See for the Jubilee. Over the course of the Jubilee the Cathedral and the Shrines at Aylesford, Faversham and Ramsgate, welcomed many pilgrims though the Doors of Mercy. People came individually, in small groups, in parish groups, in Deanery groups and groups from organisations; all responding to the invite of God the Merciful Father, to travel and pray. Truly a time of blessing for all the pilgrims and through them for the whole diocese.
