Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers
Holy Communion at the Cathedral

On Saturday 28th January 2017 Bishop Paul Hendricks commissioned 60 people as Extraordinary Ministers Holy Communion

.

Bishop Paul started the day with a talk on the Eucharist and this special Ministry

Monsignor Matthew Dickens presided at a period of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament

After lunch Monsignor Matthew spoke of the role of the Extraordinary Minister and the rubrics, including the service of administering Holy Communion to the Sick and the DBS checks that need to be taken before staring this ministry and so therefore bringing together all the training that had been given in every parish

.

Bishop Paul presided at the Mass of Commissioning along with Monsignor Matthew Dickens assisted by Deacon Peter Varnes during which he commissioned the new Extraordinary Ministers and presented their certificates.

The Extra Ordinary Ministers came from 20 parishes from around the Archdiocese: Anerley, Bromley, Carshalton Beeches, Dulwich Wood Park, Forest Hill, Greenwich, Hythe, Italian Mission, Kidbrooke, New Malden, Purley, Sidcup, Stockwell, Strood, Surbiton, Sydenham, Sydenham Kirkdale, Thornton Heath, Waddon and Wimbledon South

BBC Radio 4 broadcast Mass on Sunday 22nd January, the weekend during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, live from the Cathedral.
Canon Richard Hearn, the Cathedral Dean presided at the the Mass, and Archbishop Peter gave the homily. Haydn's Little Organ Mass is sung by the Cathedral Choir directed by Norman Harper and accompanied by Frederick Stocken. At the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George, Southwark on Saturday 14th January 2017 Bishop Pat Lynch celebrated the Feast of Santo Niño de Cebú - The Holy Child of Cebú - which holds a special place in the hearts of the Filipino community.
