Dedication of St George's Cathedral - Mass

St George's Cathedral, which is also the Mother-Church of the Archdiocese, contains the Archbishop's seat, known as a Cathedra in Latin, which is itself derived from Greek word referring to a teacher's chair.

The Solemnity of the Dedication of St George’s commemorates the original consecration of the Cathedral in 1894 and are invited to gather and give thanks to God for this house of prayer which has been a focus for local, national and international prayer throughout its existence. having once been badly damaged by a bomb during WWII,

The celebration of the Solemnity of the Dedication of the Cathedral is this year transferred from 7th to 8th November 2022 and a Solemn Mass will be celebrated at 6 pm on Tuesday 8th November by the former Dean, Mgr Canon James Cronin, and attended by a number of Honorary and Chapter Canons.
