Holy Week Services in Southwark
Holy Week services will be taking place in parishes throughout Southwark this week, particularly during the Triduum: three holy days of prayer when we commemorate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ between Maundy Thursday and Easter Day.
This year we are able to celebrate Holy Week in parishes with minimal restrictions (the wearing of facemasks may still be requested in churches). Although most will wish to support their local church and meet with fellow parishioners, we have listed below the service details for St George's Cathedral, Aylesford Priory and the St Augustine Shrine in Ramsgate, should you wish to make a special journey to one of these diocesan shrines on a particular day in Holy Week.
St George's Cathedral
Archbishop John Wilson will be celebrating the Easter liturgies at St George's Cathedral, marked in red on the poster below. All are welcome in person.
Please note that other than the Chrism Mass at 11.30 am on Wednesday 13th April 2022, the Holy Week liturgies will not be live-streamed from the Cathedral this year.
Aylesford Priory
The Friars invite everyone to join them for the Triduum at their beautiful open-air Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Carmel. Services will take place in the Relic Chapel, which holds the skull of St Simon Stock to whom Our Lady is said to have given the brown scapular.
You may also wish spend time in personal prayer and reflection by walking the attractive Rosary Way, or you can avail yourself of their Holy Week retreat, which is free of charge.
