Mass to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul II
Archbishop John Wilson will celebrate Mass on 28th May 2022 at 12.30 pm to mark the 40th Anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul II in May 1982.
During the Pope's six-day tour of the UK, he visited St George's Cathedral to anoint the sick, stating:
“I want you to know how I have looked forward to this meeting with you, especially with those of you who are sick, disabled or infirm. I myself have had a share in suffering and I have known the physical weakness that comes with injury and sickness.”
As part of the Mass on 28th May 2022, Archbishop John will also anoint the sick, just as Pope John Paul did 40 years ago.
All are extremely welcome to attend this anniversary Mass. Representatives eligible to be anointed by the Archbishop will be present from parishes around the Archdiocese. Those unable to attend the celebration of this anniversary in person may follow the Mass using the live-stream below.
This Mass takes place during an exhibition about the Pope's visit in St George's Cathedral between 16th - 30th May. Click here for more details.
