The Big One: Climate Justice Event
The Big One is a four-day action from the 21st to the 24th of April 2023, where people from many groups and movements will gather at the Houses of Parliament.

Over 100 groups will be taking part, including the Laudato Si’ Movement, Christian Climate Action, Green Christian and CAFOD.
Those gathered will be demanding that the Government faces the reality of the climate crisis in order to bring an end to the fossil fuel era, pollution and loss of biodiversity.
The four-day Big One event has been agreed with the police, and should prove to be stress-free, cheerful, family-friendly and prayerful.
Friday 21st: Unite to Survive.
- From around 11 am, you are invited to gather in the garden of St John’s Church Waterloo, for the No Faith In Fossil Fuels Service. Music playing outside by both The Salvation Army and Engage Worship.
- The actual service will start at 12-noon, led together with some Christian NGO’s.
- This will be followed by a pilgrimage from around 1 pm, which starts at St John’s Church Waterloo, and finishes at The Big One protest outside Parliament. Click HERE to find out more about the No Faith In Fossil Fuels service.Join Cafod for this pilgrimage
- 2 pm: Prayers for the government and a blessing on the rally
- Afterwards all are welcome to spend the rest of the day at the Faith Hub area of The Big One protest (location tbc).
- At 5 pm there is a Franciscan prayer walk that starts at the Faith Hub.
- Pack down is from 6 pm each day.
Saturday 22nd: Earth Day
A celebration and a family-friendly march for biodiversity.
- Activities in the Faith Hub of The Big One will start at 11 am.
- Worship at noon is focused on racial and climate justice,
- From 1 pm until 3 pm there is a Biodiversity Procession March which starts at Parliament. This is being held to mark Earth Day.
- 3 pm Mass (Roman Catholic) will be held at the Faith Hub area of the protest site.
- At 5 pm there is a Franciscan prayer walk which starts in the Faith Hub.
- Pack down from 6 pm
Sunday 23rd: Running Out of Time
The Big One co-exists with the London Marathon
- Activities in the Faith Hub of The Big One will start at 11 am.
- Worship at noon will be led by young people whose future is in the balance.
- From 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm there is a multi-faith event
- 3 pm Anglican Eucharist. This is being held at the Faith Hub area of the protest site.
- 5 pm: Franciscan prayer walk which starts in the Faith Hub space.
- Pack down from 6 pm
Monday 24th: Choose Your Future
- 11 am Activities in the Faith Hub area of The Big One.
- 12-noon worship will be led by Christian Climate Action – looking to the future.
- 5 pm Franciscan prayer walk which starts in the Faith Hub.
- Pack down at 6 pm.
Each day, between the events listed above, there will be community and creativity, prayer and song and care for Creation. All are welcome.
FAQ
- WHAT SHALL I BRING: Make sure you dress appropriately, including suitable walking shoes. Prepare for the weather, by bringing an umbrella or waterproof clothing if the weather is looking like it might rain. If it’s looking sunny, you can bring a hat or sunscreen. We also suggest bringing a camping chair, a spoon and tupperware to use as a bowl, water and food.
