We are looking for an experienced person to join our site maintenance and caretaking team. Based in London SE1, the Diocesan site comprises St. George’s Cathedral, Amigo Hall, Archbishop’s House, Cathedral House, Bowen House and St Gabriel House.


The site includes residential and office accommodation, as well as public access spaces and a car park. Offered initially on a 12-month fixed-term contract, reporting to the Facilities Manager and working across a shift pattern which includes evenings and weekends, the primary function of this role is to provide handyman/maintenance services across the whole estate and act as a caretaker for the site, in particular for the Cathedral and Amigo Hall.

The successful job holder must be empathetic to the fact that this is a Catholic site and will also be required to undertake a DBS disclosure.   Key responsibilities include planned maintenance, testing; dealing with emergencies; painting and decorating; CCTV monitoring; buildings security and opening/closing; event preparation and dealing with members of the public.

The ideal candidate will have proven maintenance skills including painting and decorating, basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical.  They will have experience of carrying out minor building works and working at height.  Previous experience of historic and/or listed buildings is highly desirable.  Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team is essential as is some knowledge of health and safety.

Basic hours are 35 per week worked in a shift pattern including evenings and weekends and could include some overtime. We would consider part-time working for the right person, but it would still need to include some evenings and weekends.  Salary range £22,500 pa to £24,500 pa depending on experience, pro-rata for part-time hours.
