Franciscan Pilgrimage: Dover to Canterbury

Join the Franciscan Family on an ecumenical pilgrimage to Canterbury from Dover on 9th and 10th September

The Franciscan Family in the UK, based in Surrey, is planning an ecumenical pilgrimage to Canterbury from Dover to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the landing of the first Franciscans in England, at Dover, on 10 September 1224.

Pilgrims from across the country, including East Kent, are invited to assemble in Dover on Monday 9 September 2024.

The programme is as follows:

Monday 9th September 2024

  • 4:30pm walk from Dover Beach to St. Edmund’s Chapel for evening prayer and a short talk on Early Franciscans and St. Edmund by local parishioner Paul Smye Rumsby. No booking required.
  • 6:30pm dinner at La Salle Verte Café (RSVP needed/cost £11.55pp) Nb £1.55 admin charge to be donated to the Filipino poor, a charity supported by this parish

Tuesday 10th September 2024

  • 7:30am Mass at Dover Beach with Friar Carlos Trovarelli, OFM Conv., Minister General of the Greyfriars and 120th successor to St. Francis of Assisi (if rain location at St. Paul Church). RSVP Encouraged.
  • Followed by – Breakfast of Bacon Baggett or Sausage Sandwich, Tea or Coffee at La Salle Verte Café (RSVP needed/cost £6.13 pp) Nb £1.33 admin charge to be donated to the Filipino poor, a charity supported by this parish.
