Archbishop John: Lent is a profound invitation to turn your heart to Christ

At the Ash Wednesday Mass in St George’s Cathedral, Archbishop John encouraged people to open their hearts to Christ

At the beginning of Lent, a season of repentance and renewal, Archbishop John Wilson said Lent “most of all, is a profound invitation to turn your heart to Christ”.

The Archbishop of Southwark said the Lord “is inviting you on this Lenten journey to return to Him, whatever that means for you, to find your way back to Him”. Archbishop John encouraged people this Lent to open their "heart to the heart of Christ”.

Highlighting the mercy of the Lord, Archbishop John said “Lent is a wonderful time to go to Confession”, he encouraged people to “lighten your burden by seeking forgiveness”.

The Archbishop said the reason we say “Lord have mercy” is “because God is loving. Because God desires to know us. Because God calls us to know the fullness of life in Christ”.

To support people on their spiritual journey this Lent, the Archdiocese is publishing daily prayers with a particular focus on the precious gift of the Eucharist. The videos will be published on the Archdiocese’s YouTube channel each morning. You can subscribe to the Channel, so you get an alert every time the video is posted.
