Talks on the Theological Virtue of Hope and its Relation to the Nicene Creed
To celebrate the Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Hope and the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, Allen Hall are offering a series of talks.
2025 is the 1700 anniversary of the first Council of Nicaea. It is this council which led to the adoption of the Nicene Creed.
To mark the occasion, Allen Hall Seminary are running a series of talks:
- Saturday, 22 March (in Lent): Consubstantial with the Father – “Christ our Hope”
- Saturday, 7 June (Eve of Pentecost): The Holy Spirit – “Taste and Dynamism of Hope”
- Saturday, 6 December: (Advent) - The Great Season of Hope in which to Contemplate the Last Things
There will also be a focus on St Thomas More and Douai Martyrs as witnesses to hope.
The pattern for the afternoons is as follows:
- 3:00 pm: Talk (with opportunity for questions/discussion)
- 4:30 pm: Refreshments
- 5:00pm: Tour with explanation of Allen Hall’s history
- 5:30pm: Sung Vespers with devotions to the Martyrs, including veneration of St Cuthbert Mayne’s relic – ending by appx. 6pm
The talks are open to anyone. However, because of available space, numbers will be limited to around 50. You are welcome to attend just for the talk.
