We are seeking a competent, well-organised and self-motivated individual to work as Secretary for the Episcopal Vicar (EV) for the SE-London Area. The Episcopal Vicar also has broader responsibilities in terms of Education, Racial and Cultural Inclusion, and the development of a diocesan Caritas structure.
Based in Blackheath, this role is initially for 12 months. This is a new role so the job holder will be required to develop many aspects of the role which will broadly cover:
• Provide administrative support, such as diary management, agenda preparation and minute-taking, for the Episcopal Vicar as pertains to his SE-London Area role
• Contacting and surveying parishes and deaneries regarding the support they require (relating to other diocesan departments where necessary)
• Assist the EV in communicating and promoting the good work-undertaken in the South East
• Undertake research and note-taking to enhance the contribution of the EV to the areas of Education, Racial and Cultural Inclusion and Caritas
• Assist the EV in the establishment and development of a diocesan Caritas function
• Develop relationships with the various departments in the diocesan curia, with senior clergy and others to support the work of the Episcopal Vicar and the mission of the diocese
• Be open to the fostering of good ecumenical and inter religious relationships
• The job holder will be expected to attend meetings and relevant training days/ courses; be willing to learn how to use new software and to keep up to date with statutory requirements, best practice, and diocesan initiatives
The ideal candidate will be a practising Catholic with a good understanding of the Church's teachings to aid research. He/she is likely to have a number of years experience in a senior secretarial role and will also have excellent skills in administration, communication and presentation, informed by a sense of responsibility as a person working in a professional capacity for the Church. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential as is proficiency will all IT required of a modern office.
This is a part-time job which we estimate will require 3 days per week. The exact hours/days can be agreed with the successful candidate and some evening and/or weekend working may be required. Salary will be a pro rata amount (depending on hours) of £24,000 to £27,000 per annum depending on experience.
