Archivist & Administrative Assistant

Location: The Apostolic Nunciature, 54 Parkside, London SW19 5NE

Hours: 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), from 9am – 1pm. Lunch is also offered at the end of the three mornings of work. 

Salary: £12,830 per annum

Job Description:

  • Oversight of the Archive of the Apostolic Nunciature. Filing correspondence according to the archiving system, and retrieving documents from the Archives if needed. Ensuring coherence and organisation of past and present correspondence.
  • Assisting with the administrative tasks of the Apostolic Nunciature. This may include answering the telephone, responding to emails that pertain to the tasks of the Archivist & Administrative Assistant, ordering stationery.
  • Receiving and transmitting requests for Papal Awards. Ensuring that all the necessary paperwork has been completed by those applying for Papal Awards. Drafting letters and transmitting the requests to Rome.
  • Accountancy work, overseeing the Peter’s Pence donations from the Diocese of England & Wales and Scotland, and keeping a record of what has been transmitted to Rome. Also ensuring that the payments for Papal Awards have been received and transmitted to Rome.

Qualifications: 

This is a professional role working for the Church and as such it is essential that the job holder has:
• Common sense with general good judgement and the ability to make sensible informed decisions
• Strong skills in administration – proven administration and archivist experience 
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal (letters, reports etc)
• Understanding and Sympathy with the Ethos and mission of the Catholic Church
• Excellent IT skills
• Open-mindedness and a willingness to be flexible and learn
